Every year during September National Forest Week is celebrated.
This year it is September 22 -28.
We learn about how valuable and renewable our forests are. Many Canadian families rely on
forests for their livelihoods and for their communities.
Originally it started as Fire Prevention Week in the 1920’s and was used to boost public awareness.
Some of the greatest threats then were natural forest fires.
In 1967 it was re-named National Forest Week to encompass a broader perspective.
Many activities are promoted during the week including National Tree Day where its encouraged to plant a tree.
Each year there is a theme and this years is, “Two-Eyed Seeing: Welcoming all knowledge to sustain our forest.”
