MiepHamling

Feb. 19, 1923 – Nov. 5, 2016

“Miep” was born and raised in Holland during the Second World War, and came to Canada as a young adult, settling into the Nakusp area to start a new life and raise a family of her own. Miep was known best for her quick wit, “sassy” nature and for her friendly and humorous disposition. Those who knew her well will remember her love of travel, shopping and her whimsical sense of adventure. She was a long-time local church member, who never hesitated when it came to donating her time and money.

Although Miep will be greatly missed, her memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all those who were blessed with the opportunity to have known her. Miep passed away in Nakusp, at the age of 93.

She is survived by her sons John (Karen) Hamling, Wally (Meghan Tulak) Hamling, daughter Evelyn Hamling, her brother Cor (Isobel) Schafthuizen and her sister-in-law Dorine Heinze Schafthuizen. She had eleven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren. She had many nieces and nephews and extended family both in Canada and in Holland. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie Hamling, her daughter Marina Hirsche, her grandson Trevor Robberstad, her sister Cornelia Schafthuizen Galama and her brother Josephus Schafthuizen.

In memory of Miep, donations can be made to Nakusp and Area Community Foundation.
