Walter Karl KOBAN

It is with great sadness that the family of Walter Koban announces his passing on February 20, 2005 after a courageous short battle with cancer.

Walter was born on December 11, 1931 in Gummern Austria. He came to Canada in 1960 and worked for Cominco for 30 years. He loved working with his hands and built his family home in Trail and his retirement home at Valhalla at the end of the Slocan Lake. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing and golfing. He leaves behind his loving wife Gerlinde of 47 years. His children Kornelia (Michael) Geldrich, Wolfgang (Caroline) Koban, Sibylle (Kelly Verdon) Heisz, and Rebecca (Garry) Findlow. His 10 wonderful grandchildren Stephanie (Jason), Derek, Christel, Kevin, Kristen, Emily, Nicholas, Bryanne, Kyle, Peter and also sadly missed by his best friends Phil and Renee and family and the Valhalla gang. Also by his sisters Herta, Trude and brother Gerhart and many nieces and nephews in Germany and Austria. Also by Gerlindes family in Germany. A get together will be held on March 26th at there home at 402 Bonanza Rd Hills 1 pm - 4 pm to celebrate Walters’s life. In leiu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Greater Trail/Castlegar Relay for Life.
