Virgil Oscar Wethal

1938-2009

It is with deep sadness that we announce the recent passing of Virgil Wethal on December 15th, 2009. Virgil was born on May 11th, 1938 in Eastend Saskatchewan. Virgil moved his family to beautiful BC in 1967. They spent three years living in Burton BC and Virgil worked for BC Hydro at that time. In 1970 the family moved to Nakusp and he started up his own building construction company.

As you look around Nakusp, you will see many lovely homes and other buildings in which he constructed. He also oversaw and built the Nakusp Hotsprings and Cedar Chalets, Halcyon Home and our Arena to name a few.

Not only was Virgil a talented carpenter but he as well known for all his many contributions within the village. He spent many years with the Kinsman Club and in which he was so actively involved with projects within the community making it a better place for all.

All who knew Virgil will fondly remember his honesty and integrity that he showed throughout his life. He will also be remembered for his great generosity and kindness that he showed towards all his family and friends.

Virgil is survived by his wife Ruth, son Darren (Tana), daughter Connie (Paul), son Steve (Annette), daughter Laurie (Rick). Also, his many grandchildren: Shelby, Zac, Kaitlyn, Cassidy, Taylor, Nicholas, Michael, Alec and Kyle. Also survived by his sister Shirley, brother in law Cam and mother in law Eva.

A memorial service was held on December 21st in Nakusp, BC at the arena auditorium in which Virgil had built. The family would like to sincerely thank Hospice and the nurses ant the Nakusp Hospital. A very special thank you to Dr. Norm Lea for everything you do.
