April 4, 1935 - July 30, 2024
In loving memory ~
My dad Nelson passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024. After a full and exciting life, he is at peace.
Born in 1935 in Strathmore, Alberta, Dad was the middle child of Nathan Woldum and Alice (nee Warrack) Woldum. Dad was preceded by both siblings Doreen Hamling of Box Lake and Gordon Woldum of Kamloops.
From Strathmore to Calgary...to Nakusp, Castlegar and back, Dad was a proud member of his communities. He was a charter member of the Kinsmen Club, Summit Lake, the Downhill Ski Club and the Arrow Lakes Cross Country Ski Club. He served as a councillor in Nakusp in the late 90s. He proudly served as a volunteer with the ambulance in Nakusp as well!
A lover of the great outdoors, Nelson retired from a long and full career with Celgar where he worked as a draftsman, timber cruiser and area forester. He finished up as a log quality supervisor, in 1997. Skiing, fishing, and travelling the globe were a few of the joys that kept dad active and busy.
Dad was loved by many and had many loves. Married to Yvette Houdayer in 1968, Married Sadie McPherson in 1983 and was widowed in 1997. Beatrice (Bea) Pickard and dad were partners from 1998.
Nelson leaves behind his son Eric Bird of Sidney, BC, stepdaughter Heather MacPherson of Prince George and stepson Rod MacPherson of Vancouver and his dearly loved partner Bea's children - Judy, Kandy and Donny. His niece Laura Strebchuk (Hamling) of Summerland held a special spot in dad's heart and spent much time with dad after he moved to Summerland and then to Penticton. Family was important to dad and he leaves behind a wonderful family of nieces and nephews throughout the Kootenays and the Okanagan valley.
While, we were sad to say goodbye, we know that dad is at peace and is probably climbing mountains or fishing from a cold mountain stream. As you remember, Nelson, my dad...Remember all the laughs he brought you and the good times spent!
