June 14, 1925 -

July 1, 2016

Mary Palmer was born June 14, 1925 in Nanaimo BC. Her parents Francis and Jane Ferguson had previously emigrated from Scotland with her older brother and sister. Upon reaching Canada, they had joined relatives in the mining community of Cumberland on Vancouver lsland.

While Mary was still young, the family moved to Vancouver and eventually bought a home in Kerrisdale. Mary met and married Russell Palmer in 1951 and they relocated with her son Kenneth to Nakusp BC. ln 1952 their daughter Janis was born.

Five years later, Mary returned to Vancouver with her two children. As a single Mother, Mary worked extremely hard and went on to achieve her Accounting Diploma. During her career, she was employed by many offices throughout the Vancouver area.

After retirement, Mary moved to Richmond where she enjoyed working in her flower gardens, reading good books and going on outings with friends.

ln 2010 Mary was diagnosed with early dementia and came back to Nakusp to be closer to family. Eventually Mary went to reside at Mountain Lake Seniors Community in Nelson. Mary loved many and was loved by many in return. She never failed to brighten someone’s day.

It is with much gratitude that her family thanks the Staff, Management and Dr Trevor Janz for the wonderful care she received during her stay at Mountain Lake. Mary passed peacefully on July 1, 2016 with family by her side. Mary was predeceased by her nephew Dal Ferguson, her son Kenneth Hennessey and her brother Frank Ferguson. She is survived by her sister Nan Mclntosh and family, and her daughter Janis Palmer (Ron Watson) and family.

Please remember Mary by giving an extra-special hug to someone you love.
