January 28, 1923 - August 1, 2019
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Bryden Madill in the early hours of August 1st at Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson. Mary was born on January 8, 1923, in Fernie, BC, the daughter of William and Mary Gates. Mary is predeceased by her loving husband Dave, her parents Bill and Mamie, five sisters, Margaret Gates, Wilma Irvine, Esther Clark, Kathryn Currie, and Louise Gates, and a baby daughter Nancy.
She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Madill-Scott [Chic Scott] and Maureen Jansma [Leo], her grandchildren Lisel Forst [Jeff], Karl Jost, Lila Orr [Marcus Garvey] and Luke Jansma [Lara Leavitt]. Nanny will be lovingly remember by her great grand-children Evan Forst, Alastair Orr and Dillon Jansma. Aunt Mary was loved by her niece and nephews 'the cousins' and their families and became the matriarch of the family.
Mary spent her growing up years in Fernie and Lethbridge and became a championship golfer in her teens. It was a game she loved and played all her life and was one of the many things that drew her and Dave to Fauquier, BC, where they lived and enjoyed their retirement years. Mary moved to Nelson after Dave died and was blessed to be surrounded by family and had the loving support to stay in her home until two days before she died.
The family wishes to thank the support of all the home care workers, the nurses at Kootenay Lake Hospital, Dr. Kyle Merritt and Kachina and Jackie for their kind care.
At a small family gathering, Mary's ashes will be laid to rest in the peaceful little cemetery in Fauquier beside those of her husband Dave.
