Marjorie STANLEY

Marjorie Stanley passed away Feb. 1, 2005.

She was born June 25, 1906 at Tregarva, Saskatchewan, the second of seven children of Walter and Bessie White. The White family moved to Nakusp in 1916. After completion of her schooling, Marjorie remained in Nakusp working as a telephone operator and office clerk for L. J. Edwards until she went to work for the Arrow Lakes News. After 4 years,Arthur B.S. Stanley decided he couldn’t manage without her so they married on July 5, 1932.

Together Art and Marjorie raised 4 children while running the Arrow Lakes News for more than 40 years. Upon retirement, they travelled extensively, but even more they loved fishing, camping and enjoying the natural beauty of the area. Marjorie was an extremely active life member of the Arrow Lakes Hospital Auxiliary, an active member of the Rotary family and a Paul Harris Fellow, and a member of the Pythian Sisters. In addition, she had been in the P.T.A., the Women’s Institute and the Nakusp Drama Club. Many years she was a Brown Owl for the local Brownies and was a tireless worker for the Thrift Shop. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, in 1996 and her son Kenneth, in 1991, one sister and four brothers. She will lovingly be remembered by her family: sons Alan (Wendy), Denis (Judy); daughter Sheila (Bob); sister Betty Walton; brother-in-law Delbert Stanley; 9 grandchildren, 14

great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A service was held Saturday, Feb. 5 at the Robertson Memorial United Church.
