May 9, 1920 - March 26, 2020
It is with profound sadness that the family of Lawrence Brewer announces his passing in the early hours of March 26th, 2020. He will always be in his family's hearts until they see him again in Heaven.
Lawrence was born in Olalla, BC, on May 9, 1920. In 1940, he was enlisted in World War II and fought for his country in Europe. Lawrence was a proud veteran and member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
After the war, Lawrence met and married his beloved wife Cecilia. A few years after the birth of their two daughters, they moved to Nakusp, BC, where Lawrence made a living logging until he retired at the age of 65. They spent a few years in Vernon, and then moved to Devon, AB, so they could be closer to their grandchildren as they grew up.
He lived happily in retirement, where he enjoyed picking mushrooms around Kootenay and the Arrow Lakes, camping all over BC, and travelling the world with Cecilia for the past 34 wonderful years.
Lawrence enjoyed his long walks and liked to go cross-country skiing, huckleberry picking, fishing, and gold panning. He enjoyed visiting his relatives and friends and talking about life on the old ranch. He loved watching his family grow up and loved being at every sports game, dance competition, and Christmas concert.
Lawrence was the last of his generation of beloved brothers and sisters. He is survived by his soulmate and wife Cecilia of 61 years; daughter Pat Champagne (Jean Paul), daughter Cathy Moore (Kevin); four grandchildren Nicole Champagne, Kevin Beskal (Tabatha), Gerard Champagne, and Danielle Sumar (Arif); two great-grandchildren Miguel Jose-Beskal and Maddox Flynn. Lawrence will also be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Lawrence was a month and a half shy of 100 years old. He lived a beautiful, full life, and his family is so proud of him. His legacy and life lessons will live on through them.
The family would like to thank Dr. S.K. Khullar and the staff at the Devon Medical Clinic as well as the Devon General Hospital for the love and care provided to Lawrence throughout his life.
A celebration of life will be held in Lumby, BC, in the summer/fall of 2020; date to be confirmed.
