Katherine Rose Kellow (Struck) (formerly Stauber) died April 17, 2011, in Nakusp, British Columbia at the age of 97.
She was born June 20, 1913, to parents Dorothy and Joseph Stauber in Pilger, Saskatchewan, where she was raised with five siblings. In 1930 she married her first husband, Norbert Struck, with whom she raised a family of seven children on their farm in Pilger until his unexpected death in 1965. She then moved to Calgary, Alberta, to live closer to her sons. During her years in Calgary she worked as a cook at the Wood's Home for children and also part time at a thrift store, and graciously volunteered at Assumption Church and several other organizations. There she also met and married her second husband, Fred Kellow, at the young age of 69. After Fred's death, she again followed her sons, this time bringing her to Fauquier, British Columbia, and later Nakusp, British Columbia, where she resided until her passing.
Katherine (Katie) was known throughout her life for her spirit, faith, and loving, helpful ways. She loved gardening, cooking and spending time with family - always being a wonderful hostess, Mother and Grandmother to many loved ones. Preceding her in death were her loving husbands, Norber Stuck and Fred Kellow, precious sons Larry (Judy) Struck of Fauquier, British Columbia, and John (Gloria) Struck of Calgary, Alberta. She is survived by a sister, Mary Schwingenschloegel of Middle Lake Saskatchewan; sister-in-law Annie (Frank) Stauber; daughters Viola (Orville) Maas of Duluth, MN, USA, and Leona (Frank) Mamczasz of Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, sons Ray (Alice) Struck of Nakusp, British Columbia, Ralph (Erika) Struck of Kelowna, British Columbia, and Lloyd (Jane) Struck of Vancouver, British Columbia, 22 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, 10 step great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, and 15 step great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews, and loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Katies ashes were laid to rest Saturday, August 20, 2011 at 2 p.m. among family and friends at St. Bernard's Church Cemetery in Pilger, Saskatchewan.
