April 1, 1938 - April 27, 2019
Karl Heinz Krey was born in Dresden, Germany on April 1, 1938. Karl passed away peacefully at the Arrow Lakes Hospital on April 27, 2019, at the age of 81 years.
Karl is survived by his children Karl Jr. (Colleen), Bernie (Chris Ann), Karen, and grandchildren Bethany, Holly, Tirza, and Noah. He is also survived by his cousin Lotti and extended family Petra (Sandor), Tobias (Sabine), Zoe, Kaya, and Jonas. Karl was sadly predeceased by his loving wife Joan, mother Edith, father Alfred, and brother Siegfried.
Karl immigrated to Canada from Germany as a young man, making his way from Quebec to British Columbia. He worked for many years in the forestry service in northern Alberta, where his met his wife Joan. Prior to meeting Joan, Karl had fallen in love with the Arrow Lakes Valley, and they made their home in Burton for the next 54 years, raising three children. Karl worked as a heavy-duty mechanic in Nakusp and thrived creating his Garden of Eden at home. He will forever be remembered for his hearty laugh, sharp skills at cribbage, and perseverance in enjoying life as best he could while suffering chronic pain from rheumatoid arthritis for over 35 years. We are relieved that he is no longer in pain.
Our family wishes to extend deepest gratitude to our many friends and supports for their kindness. Special thanks to Garth Morehouse, Harvard Aalten, Dr. Colin McNeil, Dr. Phillip Malpass, and Dr. David Goranson. Thank you also to Cyndi Kryski and staff at Nakusp Integrated Community Health Services, Louella Cann and staff at Arrow Lakes Better at Home, BC Ambulance Service, Nakusp & District Volunteer Fire Department, and the staff at Arrow Lakes Hospital.
Donations can be made in Karl's name to the Arthritis Society (BC). A memorial service will be held at the Burton Community Hall on May 18, 2019 at 2 pm.
