Helen Margaret Verkerk (Staples)
August 29, 1919 - November 17, 2011
Helen passed peacefully on November 17th. She was predeceased by her husband John and brother-in-law Art Sutcliffe. Helen is survived by her four children, Bob (Donna), Dell (Al), Bruce and Debbie, ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren, her sister Marion Sutcliff and brother Dick Staples (Vera).
Helen was born in Erickson returning to Creston, after being
educated at Margaret Eaton and Vancouver Normal School, to teach, marry John and raise her four children. In 1962 she and John and the family moved to Nakusp for five years. John as the principal of NSS & Helen a teacher there. They lived in Golden for a couple of years then moved to the coast. Helen has lived in White Rock since 1970. She has spent every summer at her cabin on Kootenay Lake.
We were indeed lucky to have her in our lives and fortunate
that she was here for so long, 92 years young.
