Hoshizaki

Helen Hiroko Hoshizaki, nee Kawashima, aged 87 years, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Pleasant Valley Manor, Armstrong, BC. Helen, along with her husband Kaz, operated their own business in Nakusp, BC. Upon retiring, they moved to Vernon and made many friends with their ever welcoming

hospitality.

They moved to Armstrong in 1995. Helen lost her husband after 57 years of marriage on January 23, 1997.

Always somewhat shy and reticent, Helen surprised her family by joining Tai Chi, and becoming active in the United Church Ladies Auxiliary by helping out with the food preparation for their booth at the Armstrong IPE. Her reputation for her great cooking and

excellent chow mein meant no invitation to dinner was ever turned down.

Predeceased by her husband Kaz; her daughter Eleanor and her son Alan, Helen will be lovingly missed by her son Brian (Ali); daughter Linda; son Donald (Connie); grandchildren Ross (Kathy), Kim (Dean), Cristian (Michelle) and Lara. She will be fondly remembered as “jello Nan” by her great grandchildren Mitchell, Nicole, Brynn, Tye, Meagan and Kai.

A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Zion United Church, Armstrong. Reverends Bari Castle and Lorraine Powell officiating. A tea will follow at the Church Hall.
