Francis Vincent (Bugs) Nelson passed away at Arrow Lakes Hospital, Nakusp on Saturday, June 12th, 2010 at the age of 86 years. A Memorial Service was held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Nakusp on Friday, June 18th at 2:00 p.m. with Father David John and Reverend Warren Fulmore officiating. Internment followed in the Nakusp Lower Legion Cemetery.


Francis was born in Revelstoke on March 31, 1924. He joined the Canadian Army in June of 1942. He served overseas with the S.D. & G. Highlanders and landed at Juno Beach on D-Day. He moved to Nakusp in 1960 and was employed by Celgar as a scaler for several years.

He then joined B.C. Forest Service, also as a scaler and worked with them until retirement.

He worked for many years at the Nakusp Golf Course,

helping in any way he could.

He served as a director of Halcyon Home Society, was a member of Nakusp Senior Citizens, president and Executive member of Royal Canadian Legion Br. #20 and received a life membership in 1999. "Bugs" was honoured as " Citizen of the Year in 1996 ".


He is survived by his loving wife Tanys of 36 years, his son Rick (Mary) step daughter Anne (Larry), grandchildren Jodi (Darcy), Stefan, Darren, Courtney, Collette (Ed), Shawn, great grandchildren Daisy, Kevan, Chris, Brandon, Spencer, one niece, two nephews, one sister-in-law.

He was predeceased by his two daughters, Sharon and Kevin.


He will be missed dearly by us all.
