Evelyn JOY

December 4, 2004

Evelyn Anna Robinson was born to Art and Pearl Robinson at Cereal, Alberta on December 19, 1914. She was the oldest of three sisters and two brothers. She attended high school in Calgary, then moved to Trail, BC where she met Bob Joy, her future husband and the youngest of five children.

They married in Lethbridge in 1936 and a daughter Myrna was born there. They moved to Nelson, Bob’s hometown, and Neil joined the family in 1940. In 1952 they moved to Nakusp where they bought the Arrow Lakes Locker and Ice Cream Parlor. Being a housewife enabled Evelyn to pursue her desire to do volunteer work. She spent many years helping the Nakusp Library, the Canadian Cancer Society and Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Store. She was a member of the United Church choir for 50 years. She died at the Arrow Lakes Hospital Dec. 4, 2004 after a short fatal illness. Her daughter Myrna Martinson of Foster City, California and a son Neil and his wife Gail who live in Nakusp, BC survive her. She will be vastly missed. God bless her and may she rest in peace. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Arrow Lakes Hospital or Robertson United Church.

A service remembrance was held at Robertson United Church in Nakusp on Dec. 9, 2004 with Rev. Hilary Bitten officiating. The refreshments were prepared and served by the United Church Women and members of the Arrow Lakes Hospital Auxiliary. Funeral direction was by Valley Funeral Home. Thank you all for attending, and for your cards, flowers and messages.
