November 29, 1946 - February 8, 2021
Erling Clark Alstad (Earl), 74 of Nakusp, passed away suddenly on February 8th 2021 at his home.
Earl was born on November 29th 1946 in Nelson BC to Egil (Al) and Clarice Alstad. He grew up in New Denver, graduating from Lucerne Secondary School. Earl's parents moved to Nakusp and it was between there and New Denver that he learned how fast his '67 Camaro could go.
This is also where he met his future love, Eileen Kent as her sister lived next door to his parents. Earl and Eileen were married on December 14th 1974 in the little house on Broadway that is now a coffee shop.
Earl loved to joke and tell a story. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and logger. Earl loved to tell about his Boone and Crockett goat and how he got his grizzly while on one leg and using crutches. The infamous story of getting his turkey will continue to be told by his children and grandchildren.
Most of all, Earl loved to be out in the bush and he loved to share his knowledge with his girls, whom he often referred to as Lou and Chris. He taught them about the forest, space, animals, and cars. He taught them to shoot, clean fish and curse. He would sing songs on long drives. He was always willing to lend a hand.
Earl leaves to tell his stories, his daughters Laura Gardner and Crystal (Perry) Ward. His granddaughters, Lavina and Chloe Gardner and grandson, Osten Ward. His sister Sonja Bakker, brother Arnold (Mary) Alstad, sister-in-law Betty (Bob) McKay, and sister-in-law Lynn Kent and many nieces and nephews.
Earl was predeceased by his love, Eileen, his parents and his brother in law Jim Bakker.
We will miss you forever dad but we know you are with mom again.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
