David Grimshire

July 28, 2011

David (Dave) Francis Grimshire died peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 28th, 2010 after a 10 month battle with cancer.

Dave was born in Nicola, BC on October 21st, 1934. He graduated from UBC with a bachelor's degree in Agriculture and received a teaching certificate from SFU. Dave and his family moved to Nakusp in 1975. He taught school in Stewart, New Denver and then finished his teaching career at Nakusp Secondary School where he taught until 1998.

Dave was an active member of the community. He was one of the founding members of the Nakusp Scholarship Society. He also was one of the main forces behind the gardens in front of NSS and was on the board of directors of the Nakusp Energy Corporation, a non-profit whose focus was to develop alternative energy solutions.

Dave is survived by his wife of 41 years Fely, sons Jeff (and wife Heather) and Ralph, granddaughter Shanti, sisters Dorothy, Gladys and Joyce, brothers Donald and Stanley. We would like to thank the doctors, nurses and medical staff who assisted with Dave's care. We would also like to thank the community for all the amazing support we received during this difficult time.

As per his request no service was held. A gathering to celebrate Dave's life took place at the Grimshire home on August 6th, 2011 at 2pm.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory can be made to the Nakusp Scholarship Society care of Kootenay Savings Credit Union or a charity of your choice.
