February 25, 1927 - May 23, 2021
Clare Weaver Holford passed away in Kelowna General Hospital on Sunday, May 23, 2021 at the age of 94. He was born in Nakusp, BC on February 25, 1927. He was the youngest of four children.
He was predeceased by his wife Alfie Holford, his parents Ernest and Nellie Holford, sisters Elsie Hubert and Athelia Marshall, brother Aubrey Holford and infant grandsons: Joshua, Isaac, Caleb and Maxwell.
He was also predeceased by a great many of his friends and acquaintances. He treasured his time with those who remained.
He is survived by his companion of the past five years Marlene Allard, his son Eric Holford, daughters Karen Cortner and Connie (Brad) Muir, as well as grandchildren Megan, Brandon, Malcolm, and Madeline.
Clare was a logger, heavy duty mechanic, crane operator, line hauler, carver, hunter, fisherman, prospector, practical joker, and history buff. To his great delight, he was also recently published poet. He could repair almost anything.
Most of all, he loved to roam in the mountains. In 2003, at the age of 76, he hiked the peaks of the Valhalla Mountains overlooking his hometown of Burton, BC.
Although his formal education ended when he completed grade eight, he was a lifelong learner, and in retirement, he began reading the entire Encyclopedia Britannica.
Fiercely independent and always planning ahead, he planted his last big vegetable gardens weeks before his death.
Please celebrate Clare's life in a way that is meaningful to you.
Now, Dad, it's Happy Hour somewhere.
