UPDATE: West Kootenay pair killed in snowmobile accident

Two Slocan Park residents were killed in a snowmobiling accident north of Nakusp.

The BC Coroners Service have released the names of the two West Kootenay residents killed in a snowmobile collision 25 kilometres north of Nakusp on Sunday.

Calvin White, 27, of Slocan Park and Elise Hansen, 29, of Winlaw died as a result of a collision with a downed tree while riding a long track snowmobile on an unplowed forestry road. Neither were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

The fatal collision occurred approximately seven kilometres from Highway 23 on a non-maintained section of the Halfway Hotsprings Forest Service Road. The pair were found by hikers the next day.

According to a Nakusp/Slocan Lake RCMP press release, on December 15 at about 11:30 a.m. police responded to the report of the snowmobile fatality.

The collision is believed to have occurred sometime during the previous evening.
