If you weren’t at the Bonnington Arts Centre on April 22, you missed out.
The centre was filled with fashion, art, decorations, and more — all created from upcycled materials for an Earth Day trashion show.
The trashion show is an exhibit where the pieces ares all made from reusable materials.
Most of the pieces in the trashion show from the fashions to the art, were made by students in Sheena DeLong’s art class at Nakusp Secondary School (NSS). Materials used included cardboard, newspaper, shopping bags and more.
Some students saw the trashion show as a cool thing to do in a small village.
“We don’t have a lot to do in Nakusp,” said Jessica Roe. “It was fun to do and get involved in.”
When DeLong first heard about the show, she thought it sounded like an interesting idea.
“Andreea Myhal approached me and said there would be an upcycle fashion show on Earth Day, and would I be involved,” she said. “I said yes because I’m passionate about the environment and having students become a little bit more aware of the issues that are around us.”
While students in Grades 9 and 10 made accessories, those in Grades 11 and 12 made the outfits, some of which were full pieces.
DeLong would like for her students to take part in the show again, they might take a break from the fashion design aspect for now.
