Update, Wednesday, Aug. 16, at 8:45 a.m.

The search for two men missing in the Beaton area south of Revelstoke is continuing, RCMP confirmed on Wednesday.

Jared Szabo of Revelstoke and Allan Ellsworth of Kelowna have both been reported missing in the Beaton/Trout Lake area. Neither have been seen for more than two weeks.

The latest news, from Cpl. Jamie Moffat of the Nakusp RCMP, contradicts information the Review was told earlier in the week that the search had ended.

Moffat said RCMP air services, and members of Nakusp and Revelstoke Search & Rescue continued to search the Incomappleux River area, where Szabo’s truck was found on Friday, Aug. 4, the day after he was reported missing.

The truck was pulled from the river last Thursday, but Szabo was not inside. On Saturday an aerial survey of the area turned up no signs of the two men.

Meanwhile, friends of the missing people have launched a GoFundMe campaign so they can raise money to bring in a specialist team in underwater searches. Jessica Cochrane told the Review they are looking to hire Ralston & Associates, an Idaho company that uses side-scan SONAR technolgy to search for missing people.

Szabo was last seen on Tuesday, Aug. 1, at his property in Beaton. Ellsworth was last seen on Monday, July 31, in Trout Lake.

RCMP could not confirm if the two men were together when they went missing.

Moffat said the search is focused on the waterway. Foul play is not suspected.

On Monday, Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, the spokesperson for the Southeast District RCMP, told the Review the search had ended following Saturday’s unsuccessful aerial survey. In fact, that was not the case.

Original article, from Monday, Aug. 14:

The search has been suspended for two people missing south of Revelstoke.

Jared Szabo of Revelstoke and Allan Ellsworth of Kelowna were both reported missing in the Beaton/Trout Lake area.

Szabo was reported missing on Aug. 3 after he failed to return home from his property in Beaton. He was last seen two days earlier. A massive search was launched and his truck was found submerged in the Incomappleux River, but rescuers were unable to access it due to the high water levels.

Ellsworth was reported missing last week, a week after he was last seen in Trout Lake.

RCMP could not confirm reports the two were together.

Last Thursday, Aug. 10, Szabo’s family hired a contractor to pull the truck from the river. When they got it out, he was not inside.

On Saturday, an aerial survey of the area was conducted with no success of finding either man.

“They’ve exhausted on the ground what they can and when they did the aerial there was no further sign,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk.
