After two weeks of practice and two zone races the Nancy Green Summit Lake Racers are off to an amazing start with great results so far.
Conditions were perfect for over 220 racers from around the West Kootenay zone who showed up to race at Red Mountain Jan. 24. Both teams from Summit Lake had great results with one of the teams placing first and the other team placing third.
They also had some individual podium finishes. Cedar Cameron-Harding placed third and Jack Watt placed first in their respective U14 categories.
The was the first dual Giant Slalom event for a few racers. All athletes competed hard and had big smiles on their faces as they ripped across the finish line to cheers from the crowd.
The zone race at Phoenix ski hill near Grand Forks this past weekend was equally exciting and rewarding for the team. The hardware haul included two second place team finishes and again the U12s and 14s were awarded individual podium honors. Madison Clark had a first and second place U12 finish and Jack Watt and Cedar Cameron-Harding again placed first and third in their U14 categories.
“All the racers have been working hard and are showing some good results,” said coach Taylor Aeichele.
