The Community Paramedicine Initiative Program was launched in April 2015, to help local health care providers develop service plans, and to help develop and refine community paramedicine processes and practices. The program is for rural and remote communities, and will provide support care and a more stabilized paramedic presence for emergency response in the community. It’s expected that the program will be able to provide services to patients’ homes by Feb. 2017. The village of Nakusp is one of 73 communities selected for the provincial roll out.
Better at Home loses
coordinator
Rosalyn Lindgren, the current coordinator of the Better at Home program, will be stepping down from the position of project coordinator, and interviews will begin soon to fill her position.
Better at Home, an organization aimed at helping seniors stay in their homes longer, has been very successful, and the pilot project, funded through the United Way, has been extended to identify what non-health related services seniors require which would enable them to stay in their homes longer. Right now, there is more need for help with lawn care.
Local Government Awareness week May 15-21
Municipalities are asked if they would like to collaborate with the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) on hosting some fun and free events designed to educate the public on what local government does. This could be a great way to explain how member municipalities and the RDCK work together to deliver services. Mayor Karen Hamling would like the village to take part in this and provide some activities in this respect.
BC HYDRO forecasts higher water levels
Recent forecasts for water levels on the Arrow Lakes have improved. BC Hydro is expecting a peak of 1438 in early July and expect it to remain above 1430 feet through Labour Day. There will be an operations update open house on June 15 in Nakusp.
Upgrades to internet service needed
Village council has approved the decision to send a letter to Telus to ask the company to start working on upgrades to the internet service for Nakusp and the surrounding area. There are many people living just outside the village who still use dial-up internet. A separate letter will be sent concerning better coverage for cell phone service at both the Galena and Needles ferry locations
