Nakusp & Area CBT Community Initiatives vote this week

The Nakusp & Area CBT Community Initiatives presentations and vote takes place this week.

The Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) Community Initiatives programs provides funding for community projects. In Nakusp, the projects are screened by a committee that includes Village of Nakusp mayor Karen Hamling, RDCK Director Paul Peterson, and committee members Bea Anton, Dorothy Drebet and Cheryl Nishida.

Once they are approved, the projects proceed to a community presentation and a vote. The early vote in Nakusp is on April 13 at the Nakusp Public Library from 7–9 p.m. The next one is on Saturday, April 17 from noon to 4 p.m.

Here are the projects up for consideration in Nakusp this year:

Arrow & Slocan Lakes Community Services - Nakusp Food Bank and School Breakfast applied for the amount of $7,700.00.

Arrow Lakes Grape Growers Society - Grape Varietal Test Plotapplied for the amount of $8,200.00.

Arrow Lakes Historical Society - Arrow Lakes Cultural Learning Centre applied for the amount of $30,000.00.

Association des Francophones des Kootenays Ouest (AFKO) AFKO: - 25th Anniversary. A theatrical applied for the amount of $900.00.

Halcyon Assisted Living Society - Making Life Wonderful for our Seniors at Halcyon House applied for the amount of  $9,894.72.

Nakusp & District Chamber of Commerce - Racking System and Billboard Signage for Needles and Galena Bay Ferries applied for the amount of $30,000.00.

Nakusp and Area Community Forest Inc. - Wensley Creek Trail Project applied for the amount of $5,000.00.

Nakusp Centennial Golf Club - Golf Course Irrigation Update applied for the amount of $6,667.00.

Nakusp Public Library Association - Nakusp Public Library Shelving Project applied for the amount of $5,000.00.

Nakusp Roots Music Society - Re-Purposing of the Ambulance Station: Event Rentals & Permanent Home for Nakusp Community Radio applied for the amount of  $30,000.00.

Nakusp Ski Club Association - Summit Lake Ski Area Tube Park applied for the amount of $5,00.00.

PALS - Protecting Animal Life Society - PALS Animal Rescue Program applied for the amount of $12,500.00.

Rosemary Hughes - Food-Farms Community applied for the amount of $3,900.00.

Royal Canadian Legion #-1-020 Nakusp Legion Main Building Upgrade applied for the amount of $30,000.00.

West Kootenay Brain Injury Association - Reach Out - WKBIA applied for the amount of $440.00.

Total funding requested: $183,834.72
