Fundraiser goes above and beyond

Nakusp showed just how much they care about youth activities at the Three Lions Pub fundraiser last Saturday, Jan. 15 when they donated an estimated $5,500 towards the school ski program.

David Bone, president of Summit Lake Ski Hill, previously told the Arrow Lakes News they needed to raise $5,000 total to cover their costs of the program.

If the estimated numbers are right, the ski hill will not only be covering that cost, but gaining a little surplus as well.

Kelly Waterfield of Summit Lake Ski Hill said they officially raised, as of Sunday, Jan. 16, $4,377.88.

However, Waterfield said she still has to collect on a couple big ticket items, and if that happens, they should receive another $1,500.

“There were some big items,” she said. “There was a logging truck full of firewood, Canucks tickets, a fishing trip.”

She estimates some people may not be able to pay up and so she puts the estimated total at $5,500.

As for the night itself, she said the band was great and plenty of people not just from Nakusp, but around the area came in to show their support.

“Now the kids will be able to ski,” she said.
