Deer are causing havoc on Nakusp area roadways.

Two accidents involving deer and motorcycles this weekend caused injuries to drivers.

On Saturday at around 2 p.m., two motorcyclists traveling about six kilometers north of Nakusp on Highway 23 were surprised by a deer that jumped out on the roadway.

“The second motorcyclist hit the brakes to avoid the first motorcyclist, lost control and tipped,” said Nakusp RCMP detachment clerk Debbie McCoy. “Both drivers were transported to hospital with minor injuries.”

On Sunday, a single motorcycle was in an accident involving a deer.

“Again, it involved a deer jumping out in front of the motorcycle, with minor injuries to the driver and passenger,” McCoy said.

The incident at 812 Highway 6 occurred at 11:40 a.m. The deer died of its injuries.
