During the public period at the end of the Village of Nakusp’s Mar. 8 council meeting, Guy Duschene spoke to council of a co-generation plant project he’s exploring.

He said it’s not anywhere near a proposal at this point, only an idea “in the clouds,” but he wanted the village to be aware.

Basically, it would involve building a co-generation plant to help burn the waste produced from businesses such as Box Lake Lumber to transfer into electricity. The idea was also brought up during the forestry panel at one of the economic meetings.

“This project is going to take three years in the realization of it, and probably another two years to implement,” Duschene said. “We’re trying to create work, trying to create all those things.”

“This is all in the clouds right now,” he said. “But things begin in the clouds.”

Thieves snatch items from marina

Police have reported a theft at the Nakusp Marina where two downriggers and a Hyundai generator were swiped out of a boat.

RCMP say the unknown suspects also tried to steal a mini-fridge and television but were unsuccessful.

The theft happened between Jan. 31 and Feb. 4. Police reported this to the Arrow Lakes News just last week.

A downrigger is a fishing tool used on boats to get bait and lures deeper in the water.
