The provincial highway information system estimates the highway will reopen at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 3. Check DriveBC for updates.

Environment Canada has placed Revelstoke under a snowfall warning. A cold front is sweeping westward across B.C.’s Southern Interior, creating heavy precipitation.

Snowfall of 15–25 centimetres is expected on the Trans-Canada in the Rogers Pass and Eagle Pass areas. Snowfall of 30–50 centimetres is forecast for the Coquihalla Highway.

The heaviest snow is expected to taper off by Friday morning.

UPDATE: Jan. 2 at 5 p.m.

DriveBC has announced the Trans-Canada will be closed in Glacier National Park from midnight to 9 a.m. on Friday.

Staff-Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky of the Revelstoke RCMP said accommodations in Revelstoke are now booked and there is concern about where to house stranded travellers.

DriveBC has also announced the Shelter Bay—Galena Bay ferry will operate round the clock as an alternate route.
