Using recreation facilities in the Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) will be a little more expensive starting in September.
The RDCK board of directors has approved an increase to user and rental fees based on a 2.6 per cent rise in the cost of living in B.C. The new fees, which take effect Sept. 2, will apply to users of recreation complexes in Nelson, Castlegar, and Creston as well as Salmo and Area G Recreation.
The price of single admission for an adult will increase from $8.08 to $8.38, while youth ages 5-18 will see prices rise from $4.04 to $4.19. Prices also rise accordingly for multi-month passes. A three-month adult pass, for example, will now cost $192.32 instead of $185.44.
Children ages 0-4 and seniors 75 and older have free entrance.
The RDCK also made changes to its hourly commercial ice rental rate, which is now a uniform $348.32 in Nelson, Castlegar, and Creston.
The commercial rate charged to use the Nelson and District Community Complex was previously $524.01, which a Nelson Star survey found was the second highest among 23 B.C. municipalities and regional districts, as well as of those in Edmonton and Calgary.
Castlegar and Creston's commercial rates, however, rose from $326.33.
The new uniform commercial rate is still higher than those found in Vancouver, Victoria, Penticton, and Burnaby. RDCK fees are based on a cost-recovery model that prioritizes facility use for the public and non-profit organizations.
