It was a weekend of hockey excitement as the Nakusp Falcons hosted the Nakusp Bantam Hockey Tournament at the Nakusp Arena February 2-4. Teams from Cranbrook, Vernon and Salmon Arm travelled through very wintry road conditions to arrive Friday evening for the opening game.

The first game was Nakusp vs. Salmon Arm. The Bantams were a little bit slow to get going in the first half, and were trailing the Shuswap team, but came out on fire in the second and won the game 6-4.

Saturday morning Nakusp faced off against Cranbrook, but lost 4-2. In the afternoon game against Vernon they lost 5-1

Semi-finals started at 8:00 Sunday morning with Cranbrook vs Salmon Arm (1st vs 4th place) and Nakusp vs. Vernon at 9:45 a.m. (3rd vs 2nd place). Nakusp squeaked in a very exciting and nail-biting win with a final score of 2-1.

Both underdogs won the semi-finals and Nakusp played against Salmon Arm in the final at 11:45 a.m.

It was a very exciting game, but Nakusp couldn’t catch up and ended up finishing second with a 3-1 loss to Salmon Arm.

As always with home games, the arena was packed with locals cheering the team on, and the raffle tables full of incredible prizes to be won. One of the 50/50’s on Saturday was over $300.
