West Kootenay RCMP seek witnesses to 200 km/h speeding driver

A 47-year-old man from Alberta was arrested at the scene of an accident on Highway 3A on Aug. 31.

BC Highway Patrol Nelson is looking for witnesses and dash-cam footage for an extremely erratic and dangerous driver caught speeding at near 200 km/h.

RCMP in Nelson, Trail and Castlegar received several urgent calls Aug. 31 about an erratic driver travelling at high speeds, swerving into oncoming traffic and passing vehicles unsafely, according to a police statement.

The black Honda Ridgeline with an Alberta license plate was spotted travelling between the communities between the hours of 9 and 10 a.m.

Several collisions were reported. In one incident, the driver ran into the rear of an off-duty police officer driving his personal vehicle on Highway 3A near Taghum. A short distance later, the driver crashed his vehicle on Highway 3A near Nelson in front of two BC Highway Patrol members who were about to try to pull him over.

A 47-year-old man from Alberta was arrested at the scene.

BC Highway Patrol Nelson is conducting a criminal dangerous driving investigation for this occurrence and would like to speak to any witness who may have been run off the road, have dash-cam footage, or witnessed these events.
