Nakusp is to get a long-awaited improvement to the crosswalk over Highway 6 between the secondary and elementary schools at 4th Street. Ryan Oakley, the West Kootenay district engineer for the B.C. Ministry of Transportation, advised village council at its last meeting that funds have been secured for the project to include overhead LED (light-emitting diode) signs. The signs light up and also illuminate the crosswalk below. The installation is expected to be in place by the start of the school year in September. This file photo from the province shows a crosswalk installed recently in Grand Forks. Oakley said the ministry has installed a number of these in many communities with great success.
