A youth convicted of two sexual assaults against teen girls in the West Kootenay will not spend any time in jail.

On Nov. 13, 2024, the youth, who can not be named under a court-ordered publication ban, entered guilty pleas connected to a sexual assault charge filed in Rossland Court and a separate sexual assault charge filed in Castlegar Court.

The youth appeared at the Rossland Law Courts on June 5 and was sentenced to a deferred custody and supervision order for a term of six months, followed by an intensive support and supervision order for 18 months.

He is also required to submit a DNA sample.

At the conclusion of the sentencing hearing, a stay of proceedings was directed by the Crown in relation to a second count on the Castlegar file.
