Nathan Jackman died in a car accident on May 5, 2024. His family has established a memorial fund in his name.

The Osprey Community Foundation is proud to announce the establishment of its newest fund, the Nathan Jackman Memorial Fund.

Established by Nathan’s parents, Tammy and Derrick Jackman, the fund will honour the memory of a young man that had big dreams, a big heart, and a huge presence, in any group or on any hockey team of which he was part.

Nathan died tragically in a car accident on May 5, 2024. At the time of his passing, he was preparing to graduate from L.V. Rogers and eagerly anticipating his second year with the Castlegar Rebels hockey team.

Nathan’s Fund will create a lasting legacy in his name by providing annual scholarships to students in Nelson and Castlegar. As a permanently endowed fund, only the generated income is awarded annually, ensuring that Nate’s memory will live on, in not only the memories of those who knew him, but also in future generations.

Establishing the fund was an important step for Tammy and Derrick.

"It was really important to us to not only preserve Nate’s memory, but to do so in a way that would support our community’s youth as they graduate from high school and go on to pursue their dreams," said Tammy in a statement.

By partnering with Osprey, the Jackmans can focus on sharing Nate’s story and building the fund, leaving the administrative and regulatory work of being a charitable foundation to Osprey.

All proceeds from the upcoming inaugural Nathan Jackman Memorial Golf Tournament will be endowed in the fund. The tournament takes place on Saturday, July 5 at the Castlegar Golf Course.

Tournament organizers Kyle Mace and Reid Gerrand have big plans for the future of both the fund and the tournament.

“Nate was a huge part of our community and his loss has affected so many of us," said Kyle. "He loved a good party and we know that given the opportunity he would have continued to do great things with his life and for his community. This is an opportunity to celebrate him in a really meaningful way. We plan to hold this tournament every year and to build his fund so that it not only provides scholarships but also supports other organizations and programs in his name.”
