Ashby comes back for more

Sean Ashby, lead guitarist with Canadian super star Sarah McLachlan for 12 years, is one of the Canadian music industry’s top guitarists. He has released three solo albums, the latest being Fantastico. Sean plays lead guitar in bands Jack Tripper and Delerium, and has backed well-known singers such as Rita Chiarelli, Mae Moore and Sue Medley.

If you love guitar and the blues and rock genres, Sean Ashby’s show is a must see. Sean uses six different guitars on stage, including his “lap steel,” similar to a dobro, which he plays with amazing skill.

He describes his performance as a “singer-songwriter, guitar-guy show” and his musical style as “twang and slide – heavy on the twang.” He plays his own material plus covers of Motown and Rockabilly tunes, some country classics, and even old surfer tunes using a hollowed out Gretsch guitar.

Originally from Ontario where he had his formal musical training, Sean was based in Vancouver for many years and now calls Winnipeg home. He spends half of the year touring solo throughout Canada and the U.S. playing large and small halls and clubs. He includes out of the way places such as the Slocan Valley on his tours. This will be Ashby’s third concert at the Silverton Gallery, Friday, August 23, 7:30 p.m. ($12.00 at the door).
