The founder of Diverse Family Roots Society is getting word out that registration is open for diverse families looking to join others for a fun and relaxing weekend of free camping at Kootenay Lake in August.
Riondel R3 Set 2024 is all about bringing families together that have sons and daughters with disabilities, begins Ben Postmus, society founder and executive director.
“COVID wreaked havoc on families, especially those that have the most vulnerable in their homes,” Postmus continues. “Our kids were the first to stay home from school, day programs and their jobs.
“Many of those lost their employment due to COVID and some did not return,” he says.
“R3 Set 2024 is all about bringing families together for a weekend of camping and other activities, a chance to reconnect, re-energize and perhaps relax.”
Registration is required.
The camping weekend will go Aug. 23 to Aug. 25 at the Riondel Community North Bay Park and Campground.
There is no cost for families.
To register, email diversefamilyroots@gmail.com.
“This is a great opportunity to connect with other families with similar struggles, successes and the lived experience,” Postmus shares. “Some families have not been out and away for some time.”
For families that are unable to stay overnight, Postmus encourages them to join in for the day.
There are no power sites at the campground, so attendees must bring their own generators.
There is an accessible washroom with showers and flush toilets.
Activities will include a pancake breakfast each morning and yoga on the beach, massage therapy for those that would like it, sound healing therapy sessions, a belly dancing workshop, kayaking, live music, movies, a walking tour with a local historian, and more.
“What better place than the east shore of Kootenay Lake?” Postmus adds.
“A true treasure.”
