The Bonnington Arts Centre was the venue for the Arrow Lakes Arts Council showcase presentation of Community Artists in Concert Sunday, January 23, 20ll.

An appreciative audience was treated to a diverse program representing a sampling of local talent in a staggering array of artistic mileux.

Among the featured performers were:

Lisa Ante, an inspiration to her students at Nakusp Elementary and Nakusp Secondary Schools. Lisa is the driving force behind the music and band programs, motivating her students by sharing her own talent and experience. She started studying piano at an early age and has completed her Royal Conservatory of Music Grade 10 level. She joined the Band program in grade 8, playing trombone, trumpet and tuba throughout high school, accompanying the concert and jazz choirs on piano. She earned her B of Music with honours and her B of Education degrees from UBC. Lisa performed piano duets with Marilyn Massey, jazz trombone, and piano accompaniments for Rowan Gregor and Riley McCormack.

Rowan Gregor is a Grade 12 student at NSS. He has been involved in music, jazz band, theatre and sports for many years, and plans to study music at UBC. Rowan demonstrated his talent on saxophone and voice.

Riley McCormack, a fellow Grade 12 student at NSS loves music. She plays piano, band and jazz band, and her theatre involvement has revealed her impressive vocal talent. She hopes to attend St. Thomas University in N.B. Riley performed a musical theatre number from the recent NSS production of Suessical with Rowan Gregor.

Shannon Heppner plays piano, organ, and loves to sing. Aside from her musical pursuits, Shannon has proven to be a talented and prolific writer. She recited some of her original poetry.

Danielle Savage, though a relative newcomer to Nakusp, has had a resounding and positive impact on the Arts community. A talented musician, Danielle teaches piano, drums, guitar, voice theory, and music classes for preschoolers through her school, Savage School of Music. Classically trained Danielle performed on piano and voice.

Leah Holden, a very young and remarkably talented lady started playing violin at the age of five. She also plays piano and sings, and has performed with the Slocan Community Orchestra, the Arrow Lakes String Ensemble, and in various student concerts and theatre productions as well as at Halcyon Home and seniors dinners. Leah played two of the selections she will perform for her grade six violin exam for RCM.

Marilyn performed piano duets with Lisa Ante, accompanied Danielle Savage and Ella Henke, and entranced the audience with her finale of Minuet in G by Paderewski and Leander Fishers intricate The Robin’s Return.
