The Nakusp Public Library invites kids of all ages to join the 2018 BC Summer Reading Club. Registration is free and starts at the library on June 25. Children receive a reading record to help keep track of how much they have read. Upon completion of the program they are awarded a medal.

Although any book, audiobook or magazine will count towards the contest, the theme for 2018 is the world of Motion Commotion. This means every kind of movement — physical and mechanical, indoors and outdoors, alone and with friends, independently and with a little help.

The BC Summer Reading Club motivates kids to read (or be read to) regularly, which helps to maintain or improve their reading skills while school is out. It makes reading fun by inviting kids to read what they want and when they want. The expert staff at Nakusp Library can help kids find just what they like, whether it’s a print book, audiobook, e-book, or magazine.

Having people actively use libraries is one of the goals. According to the BC Summer Reading Club website, developing the habit of regular reading can help to “promote public libraries as a community resource for year-round, life-long learning.”

The BC Summer Reading Club is sponsored by the British Columbia Library Association, with financial support from Libraries Branch, Ministry of Education, and the RBC Foundation.
