Tom Moffat of Cochrane, beloved husband of the late Lucia Moffat (deceased March 14, 2008), passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at the age of eight-two years.


Tom was born in Calgary and is the only son of Thomas Black and Winifred Ada Moffat. He graduated from Western

Canada High School in 1945, and then attended SAIT where he received his aircraft maintenance certificate. Tom’s career took him to many places throughout Canada. He worked for several airlines throughout his career, retiring in Ontario in 1989 from Wardair Canada. He enjoyed climbing and hiking in the mountains with his parents who were pioneers in climbing circles and were members of the Alpine Club of Canada. Tom was instrumental in developing youth hostels in Alberta. He would often cycle between these hostels helping to build and maintain them. Tom met Lucia in early 1958 through a hiking group, known as the Rocky Mountain Ramblers. They were married December 20, 1958. Tom and Lucia later enjoyed camping, hiking and travelling with their three children. They retired to Nakusp, BC in 1990 and lived there for fifteen years before returning to the Calgary area.


Tom is survived by two sons and daughters in law and a daughter and son in law, James and Laura, Peter and Jackie, Marijke and David Couch, and Colleen’s mother Karen all of Cochrane, six Grandchildren, Zachary, McKayla, Jonathon, Colleen, Malena and Jayda, as well as his step grand daughter Elouise.

Memorial Services will be held at BETHANY CARE CENTRE
