On Monday, August 9, 2004 Mabel Jemson of Nelson passed away at Mt. St. Francis, Nelson, at the age of 96 years. Mabel was born May 16, 1908 at Wisbech, Cambridge, England. She emigrated to Canada in 1910 with her parents Ben and Lydia Parkinson who homesteaded in Nakusp. Mabel was educated in Nakusp and New Denver and moved to Nelson in 1947. She loved to play badminton and tennis and enjoyed curling and playing bridge.
Mabel was predeceased by her siblings Miriam, Lydia, Edmond, and Maud and her two husbands Jack Hopkins, and Stan Jemson. Mabel is survived by her two sons Howard Hopkins and Bruce Hopkins, Five grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A graveside service was held Monday, August 16, 2004 at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Nakusp with Rev. Gail Clifton officiating. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Thompson Funeral Service Ltd.
