Kathleen Margaret Balfour nee Sutherland of Trail passed away at the Kootenay Boundary Regional Hospital on Dec. 25, 2004 at the age of 79 years. Kathleen was born in Nakusp on October 1, 1925, daughter of late Gordon Osbourne and Marion Rose (Sanderson) Sutherland. She is survived by her children John (Joy), Gordon (Ruth), Douglas (Micki), Cathie (Randy) and Scott (Patricia); by her grandchildren Arnie, Alana, Jeff, James, David, Nicole, Tara, Ceili, Joseph, Carly, Brendan, Michelle and Christine; by her great-grandchildren Emma, Ji Sung, Ji Min and Addison; by one brother Gordon (May) Sutherland; by one sister Ann Croft; by her life long friend Dodie Coates; by many nieces and nephews. Kay was predeceased by her husband (Alexander) “Brick” in 1989. Kay graduated from the Royal Jubilee Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching, especially feeding the many birds that would arrive throughout the winter months. Mom greatly enjoyed caring for all the family pets and they were always welcome to come and stay with her. The family would like to thank Dr. Jacobsen for all her loving care, and also thank you to the ambulance attendants, emergency staff and the staff of the third floor. A celebration of life will be held in Robson in early spring. The date will be announced. Cremation has taken place. For those who wish, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
