Power outage hits Silverton area
Another winter power outage has hit the Silverton area over the weekend.
Last week’s power outage was just the beginning. There were several reports of electrical appliances and equipment getting damaged and some residents out of power from 7–4:30 p.m. on Jan. 7. The power outage ranged from Nakusp, Fauquier, Burton, to Silverton and Enterprise affecting almost 3,000 BC Hydro customers.
Heavy wet conditions and several trees across wires caused a second outage on the morning of Jan. 16 first in Sandon at Highway 31A. A BC Hydro representative said the outage was reported by a Sandon resident early morning Sunday. Crews were called out and were assisted by contractors to fix the line.
Trees falling and crossing wires along Hwy 6 also affected 273 customers in the Silverton to Enterprise area. Due to the snow conditions, communication was an issue between radios and crews in the repair process, power was restored just after 1:30 p.m.
