Ryan Willman
Ryan Willman moved to Nakusp with his family in 2012 after spending six years teaching in northern Alberta and B.C First Nations communities. He has joined the Nakusp Secondary High School teaching staff as the Athletic Director and is also working as the Aboriginal Education Coordinator for School District 10. Ryan is also a volunteer soccer and ski coach at the high school and vigorously promotes sports and an active, healthy lifestyle. Ryan participates in the community of Nakusp as a certified referee for the Nakusp Minor Soccer program, and is also an active participant in several community sports groups. Ryan’s previous journalistic experience includes writing arts and entertainment articles for the University of Alberta newspaper, The Gateway and submitting sports articles to the Arrow Lakes News on behalf of the high school athletic program. Ryan and his family are inspired by the strength of the Naksup community and feel like they have finally found a home.
     
Operations Manager
Jennifer Cowan
Jennifer is the new Operations Manager in the Castlegar office. With a background in retail business, and a short stint working for the Nelson Star in 2010, Jennifer comes to the table with experience, understanding and knowledge of what it takes to run a business in a small community. After taking a couple of years to travel and see the world, she returns with energy and passion to help lead the team to greater success. Having lived in Nelson most of her life, Jennifer welcomes the challenge of managing the Castlegar News, Rossland News, Arrow Lakes News and West Kootenay Advertiser and looks forward to getting to know these communities better. She is a Rotary club member, community volunteer, and spends her free time playing outside.

Chuck Bennett
Chuck Bennett has been the Publisher of the Nelson Star since its inception in 2008. After growing up in Nelson, Bennett moved around the province before returning to Nelson in 2007. Bennett has been in the community newspaper business for more than 20 years and has held many different positions in the industry, including owner, editor, sales person and is now the Group Publisher for all of the Black Press papers in the Kootenays. Bennett is very involved in the community, currently serving as the Chair of Nelson Youth Soccer, President of the Nelson and District Chamber of Commerce and is a member of the Rotary Club of Nelson. He is also a director and past president of the BC and Yukon Community Newspaper Association and a former board member of the Canadian Community Newspaper Association.
